The goal of Newfoundland and Labrador Library Week is to make people aware of the broad range of services provided to them by the libraries of Newfoundland and Labrador and to encourage people to visit their own libraries both during library week and the rest of the year. Special activities are hosted by many libraries throughout the province during Library Week. Library staff may draw upon suggestions and promotional ideas provided by Library Week's organizing committee. Library Week is planned by a team of volunteers, which can include NLLA members, library staff and public library trustees. The team is responsible for choosing a theme and preparing kits containing posters, bookmarks and suggestions for activities and contests, and for providing promotional materials for sale, usually including a T-shirt. While a small start up fund is provided, Library Week is intended to be operated on a break-even or slight profit basis. Prizes and sponsors are solicited to keep costs at a minimum. |
